Located in north-central Belgium, Antwerp is home to thousands of the world's best diamond cutters and polishers. It is a city whose history is rich with diamond cutting, dating back to the 17th century. It was about this time that diamonds were discovered in South Africa, a discovery that led to an influx of significant amounts of rough diamonds to Europe. The majority of the diamonds flowed through Antwerp, and the city flourished. Today, it is estimated that 70% of the worlds' diamonds are cut, polished, and distributed there.
